About the Vanguard S&P 500 Index ETF (VOO)
The Vanguard S&P 500 Index ETF (VOO) aims to match the performance of the Standard and & Poor’s 500 Market Index which measures the investment return of the largest 500 U.S. stocks.
The fund employs an indexing investment approach designed to track the performance of the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, a widely recognized benchmark of U.S. stock market performance that is dominated by the stocks of large U.S. companies. The advisor attempts to replicate the target index by investing all, or substantially all, of its assets in the stocks that make up the index, holding each stock in approximately the same proportion as its weighting in the index.
Visit the Vanguard website for the latest authoritative information about the ETF.
VOO is a good option for investors who do not want to conduct the research required to select individual stocks but want to own “the market”. S&P 500 market index mutual funds and ETFs are among the most popular investments for passive investors.
By holding VOO or any S&P 500 stock market index fund or ETF, investors will essentially match the return of the primary U.S. benchmark index.
The iShares VOO equivalent is the SPY ETF.
The Vanguard VOO mutual fund equivalent is VFIAX.
Active investors who own individual stocks can supplement their research with tools such as the Sure Dividend Newsletter, which offers subscribers ten dividend growth stock picks to subscribers every month.
